The date for the 5th Technical Meeting of the Southern African Coal Processing Society for 2026 will be announced shortly.

The 4th Technical Meeting of the Southern African Coal Processing Society for 2026 was held at the Colliery Training College (CTC) Auditorium in Emalahleni on 1 October 2026.  The meeting featured two highly informative presentations by Enprotec specialists namely, Gavin Maré will present on “Material Characterisation & Test Work” and FC Russouw on “Thickener Design Considerations for the Coal Industry”.

A networking session with snacks and drinks was held after the meeting at the CTC Lapa.

The 3rd Technical Meeting of the Southern African Coal Processing Society for 2026 was held at the Colliery Training College (CTC) Auditorium in Emalahleni on 11 June 2026. Vicky Van Schalkwyk from Glencore Operations, South Africa (Pty) Ltd presented on “In-Motion Coal Accounting” — an innovative approach that allows accurate coal load measurement while vehicles remain in motion, improving efficiency, reducing delays, and streamlining logistics operations” and Professor Samson Bada from Wits University presented on “Critical but overlooked: the role of coal in the renewable energy ecosystem with other applications”

The 2nd Technical Meeting of the Southern African Coal Processing Society for 2026 was held at the Colliery Training College (CTC) Auditorium in Emalahleni on 26 March 2026 and held in conjunction with the Southern African Coal Processing Society AGM. The first presenter was Vicky van Schalkwyk from Glencore Operations South Africa who presented on “Why sampling accuracy matters”. The second presenter was Pervaan Pillay from Thungela Khwezela Colliery and he presented on “Optimization of magnetite recovery circuits in a Navigation coal-washing plant challenged with scaling due to gypsum formulation.

The first presenter was Pieter Bezuidenhout, Managing Director of MBE Minerals who presented on “Recovering Lost Value in Coal Preparation Plants”. The second presenter was Frikkie Enslin, Product Manager – Cyclones, Multotec International (Pty) Ltd who presented on “The era of ESG consciousness and its effects on coal handling and processing plants”.
